METAMORPHOSIS – Jane Fitzgerald

He was the quintessential
Pin stripe suit
Buttoned up tight
A fine specimen for
Corporate life
He dutifully inhabited
The uniform
His greatest fear was
To be different
In a transforming dream
He appeared at work
In a vivid pink suit
Flushed by unwanted feelings
He became absorbed
Into the disturbing garment
Too mortified to remain
He raced wildly away
Seeking escape
Only to find himself
Embraced by a world of
Glowing soft, rose shadows
Illuminating his being
Stripping him of darkness
His grim expression relaxed
Suppressed feelings flowed
Outward
Releasing him to be
Softer, warmer
Kinder, more content
At last, free to enjoy
Being in the pink
