Sailing on Gravy Boat Seas~ Darrell Petska

Do not despair, dear
gravy boat in-waiting.
Though long disuse
tests the finest shine,
your day draws near:
some keen eye, surprised
you’ve been confined,
untried—a modest marvel,
will free you to serve
as your maker intended.
Then, to most hearty acclaim,
from you shall flow
gastronomic delights—
how sweet! how savory!
how simply divine!—
your good fate cemented,
your place at table
vital as salt and black pepper.
For you believed in your shine,
as always one must.
Beyond that, it’s all gravy
once you’re called on to pour.
