I settled somewhat uneasily into the plush upholstery.
“Believe me please; tomorrow is out of the question as one day too late, and, well, meeting yesterday would have raised too many odd queries even if it were possible for you personally to accomplish. And after all, this is your time. But just so we’re clear: we are here, now, meeting today, with no temporal overlaps prior or following. In selecting this very specific time node, I have isolated as our Today that moment just before total Sector annihilation, you know, sort of the reverse of the Big Bang. This provides the impetus for our discussion, and clarifies my posed question:
“What would you do, if there were no Tomorrow?
“I have found through trial and (unfortunately) rather catastrophic error that it is very hard for any being, especially Humans, to think seriously of an End happening, unless, of course, you are already quite convinced that this is the case. Thus, our current dilemma. I have chosen the actual very specific node of one Terran Day prior to decimation of this spatial region, and must assure you that in our Here and Now, Tomorrow’s a little too late. Let’s just say that that chance has already passed.
“So …the quixotic question of what would you do becomes what will you do. Humm?
“Now, calm down – calm down! I would not have brought you up to this moment, this crucial decision-point, without some last-chance recourse. You have two versions of your ‘Get Out of Hell’ card, as it were:
“First, you can Spin the Wheel – take pot luck and just see what form Samsara assigns you to come back in, and when and where that next being might commence Being. You choose to spin; you get what comes up. I emphasize: you can spin, but you are not strictly obliged to do so.
“Alternatively, you can choose to live this day to its very fullest, and be granted anything your Mortal Heart desires. As a bonus, I’ll extend ‘today’ for a little longer than your standard two-dozen hours. No, really, the actual Time base won’t change, but your perception of Time’s passage most certainly will. It will seem like you have, shall we say, ‘all the time in the world’. Your choice.
“Until tomorrow.”
