If the goose threatens to fly,
Between now and Christmas dinner,
You know you’re in trouble.
I suggest a serious reboot,
Until you discover what’s up.
Believe me, I’ve been through it.
Seen the oddest things imaginable.
Lived to report the damage.
Handled it with grace, mind you.
What else is there to do?
You can’t run from the truth,
And even if you could,
No one chases ghosts these days;
There’s not a penny in the pursuit—
Quite a losing proposition, at best.
Perhaps, it’s time to summon the goose.
Tell her this flight is forbidden.
You’ve found a new home for her
In a quaint spot south of Boca.
You’re making reservations tonight
On the Amtrak Silver Star.
She can bring her entire flock.
That ought to settle the matter.
