coming to inchicore
off the naas road from the business
parked countryside soaking.
two steeples: a church stands
as it must have done hundreds
of years. this is the closest
we come to approaching a skyline.
dublin sulks and all
around former corporation
housing bought outright –
plastercast pebbledash on brick
sealed asbestos. a board-window bar
on the corner where the road
and canal split. there’s a story
about a firebomb attack. one way walking
goes to celbridge where a friend lives –
one way to the city centre
where I do. it’s an in-between location:
once I considered buying here.
scumbag kids skip along yelling
curses at each other. all the cars
are full of tired tradesmen, office
workers. outside a cafe two
old ladies sit and feed fat birds.
