Lights on a torrent
Flowing red up-, white downstream
Racing two-tone sparks
I am darkly among them
Headlight halos outrun me
Two lambent serpents
Red and white, pass each other
Close but not touching
They coil together only
At night, chaste mates of a road
Sparkles on a black
Stream, pairs aloof from others
In the glittery chain
They form: a pageant, curbing
Chaos, not isolation
At night, freeway drivers
Are as self-contained as snakes
Biting their own tails
Each headlight’s a mandala
Each wheel is a closed circuit
